Lee Nguyen celebrates the traditional Vietnamese New Year with special emotions different from every year.
Lee Nguyen wears traditional ao dai to celebrate Tet
For overseas Vietnamese players like Lee Nguyen, the traditional Tet holiday is very special. After many years, Lee Nguyen returned to his homeland and celebrated Tet with his family and friends.
"I still call my dad in Dallas and sometimes he reminds me that Vietnamese New Year is coming soon. If I didn't pay attention before, but after nearly 3 years in Vietnam, I understand how meaningful Tet is to my dad as well as the Vietnamese people," Lee Nguyen shared.
Lee Nguyen said he loves the taste of Tet and spring. The former US player clearly felt the Tet atmosphere in Ho Chi Minh City, and it all started from the first days he arrived here.
"On the first day I arrived in Ho Chi Minh City and was quarantined in the hotel, I saw the bustling atmosphere from the window. In the US, Vietnamese people also have 1-2 days off for Lunar New Year, and for Christmas we have about a week to relax. But it was not until I came to Vietnam that I realized how important Tet is because everyone looks forward to Tet," said Lee Nguyen.
Returning to Vietnam is not only to play, but Lee Nguyen also has his own big goals: "I know when I return to Vietnam, many people say I am 34 years old. But in Europe there are people like Ibrahimovic who are still playing football at the age of nearly 40, it is admirable. Ibrahimovic is my idol and also my goal. I also want to play football until I am 40 like him.
I wish I could play for the Vietnam national football team! I am proud of the Vietnamese blood in me inherited from my father. Even though I cannot wear the Vietnam national team shirt as a player, who knows, in the future I will contribute to this shirt as a coach."
Another star of Vietnamese football, Nguyen Cong Phuong, also had a special Tet holiday, because he is "someone's husband".
As for Cong Phuong, he realizes his responsibility as a family man, so he has to prepare for Tet. Cong Phuong just showed off the pot of Banh Tet that he wrapped himself, considering this a meaningful gift for his wife and relatives.
