Miracle of saving the life of a 3-year-old girl in Hung Yen who was run over by a tractor, suffering traumatic brain injury and liver rupture

After being run over by a tractor, a 3-year-old girl named NTA (from Hung Yen) was taken to the emergency room at Viet Duc Hospital in a state of shock and severe blood loss, threatening her life.

The doctors on duty determined that this was a red alert case, and the patient was taken straight to the operating room for both resuscitation and diagnosis and surgery.

At this time, the girl was determined to have multiple injuries: traumatic brain injury, chest trauma, hemothorax, intra-abdominal bleeding due to liver rupture, central pancreas rupture, diaphragmatic rupture causing abdominal organs to rise to the chest, pelvic fracture, and femur fracture.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Hoa, Head of the Department of Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery, Viet Duc Hospital - who directly participated in the surgery for the child patient, said that the surgical team quickly performed emergency surgery on the child patient.

Surgeons stopped bleeding in the liver and pancreas, brought the herniated organs from the chest to the abdomen, and sutured the pancreas and intestines. At the same time, anesthesiologists actively transfused blood and performed resuscitation to maintain stable hemodynamics, helping the child overcome the critical stage.

"The emergency surgery lasted 5 hours with the urgent efforts of the entire surgical and anesthesia team. After 15 days, the patient had to stay in intensive care on a ventilator and continue intensive treatment.

By May 16, the patient was conscious and had miraculously recovered. The child's recovery was a miracle given the severe injuries he suffered," said Dr. Hoa.
