Tet holiday 2024, handling more than 29,000 cases of alcohol concentration violations

Accordingly, during the 7-day Tet holiday, the national Traffic Police force handled 71,409 violations; fines totaled 182.4 billion VND. Compared to the same period of the Lunar New Year 2023, the number of violations increased by 48,752 cases (up 223.4%), and the fines increased by nearly 131.7 billion VND (up 265.4%).

Specifically, in the field of road traffic, the Traffic Police force inspected, detected and handled 71,382 violations; fined 182.3 billion VND; temporarily detained 1,463 cars, 34,082 motorbikes, 140 other vehicles; revoked 18,899 driving licenses of all kinds. Of these, the Highway Traffic Control Patrol Teams and the Traffic Police Department inspected, detected and handled 843 violations; fined 1.11 billion VND; revoked 401 driving licenses; temporarily detained 99 vehicles. The authorities detected 1,014 violations through the camera surveillance system, recorded 75 cases, and sent notices of violations to 939 cases.

Regarding handling of alcohol concentration violations, 29,099 cases were detected and handled (accounting for 41.25% of the total number of violations of traffic order and safety); compared to the same period of the Lunar New Year 2023, an increase of 21,373 cases (an increase of 277.7%). Some localities handling high alcohol concentration violations are Ho Chi Minh City with 2,576 cases, Hanoi with 1,167 cases, Dong Nai with 1,060 cases, Bac Giang with 975 cases, Nghe An with 886 cases, Binh Phuoc with 870 cases...

Regarding handling of speeding vehicles, 16,756 cases were detected and handled (accounting for 23.75% of the total number of violations). Compared to the same period of the Lunar New Year 2023, the number of fines increased by 14,609 cases (an increase of 680.4%).

Regarding handling of drivers testing positive for drugs, 114 cases were detected and handled (accounting for 0.16% of total violations). Some localities with high results in handling violations include Hanoi with 20 cases, Dak Lak with 17 cases, Dong Nai with 10 cases, Tay Ninh with 10 cases, Son La and Ca Mau with 9 cases, Binh Duong with 6 cases, etc.

Regarding handling of vehicles violating oversized and overloaded conditions, there were 162 cases (accounting for 0.23% of total violations); vehicles violating the regulation on carrying more people than the prescribed number had 689 cases (accounting for 0.98% of total violations).

In the field of waterway traffic, the Traffic Police of local Public Security organized patrols and controls on inland waterway routes and areas; propagandized and reminded watercraft to ensure security, order and traffic safety. Through patrols and controls on the routes, 25 violations were detected and handled, with fines of 118 million VND.

In the field of railway traffic, 2 violations were detected and handled, with a fine of 7.5 million VND.

Through patrolling, controlling and handling violations, the Traffic Police force directly and in coordination with functional forces arrested 31 criminal cases, and handed over 32 subjects to the investigation agency for handling.

During the 7-day Tet holiday, there were 541 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 214 people and injuring 504. Compared to the 7-day Tet holiday of Quy Mao 2023, the number of deaths due to traffic accidents decreased by 24.38%.
