The latest earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province, at 19:53:26 on July 28.

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center of the Institute of Geophysics (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) informed that on July 28, it continuously issued 13 earthquake bulletins in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province.

The earthquake had the largest magnitude at noon on July 28, recorded up to 5.0 magnitude. Disaster risk level 2.

Specifically, the latest earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province, recorded at 19:53:26 on July 28 at the coordinates 14.935 degrees North latitude - 108.216 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1km. Natural disaster risk level 0.

Previously, on July 28, 12 consecutive earthquakes with magnitudes and focal depths of about 8.1-10km were also recorded in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province. The natural disaster risk level was 0, causing no damage to people or property.

According to the Institute of Geophysics, since the beginning of 2024, there have been a total of 155 major earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 2.5 nationwide, including 142 earthquakes in Kon Plong district and neighboring districts of Kon Tum province. Many earthquakes caused widespread tremors, the largest of which occurred on the afternoon of August 23 with a magnitude of 4.7.

Director of the Institute of Geophysics, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh added that a 5.0 earthquake is a medium-sized earthquake, which can cause moderate to severe damage to poorly designed structures but no damage to light damage to well-designed structures. People in the above area can feel the shaking of the earthquake and can cause human damage depending on the impact circumstances.

Currently, the Institute of Geophysics has put 11 earthquake monitoring stations at local stations and neighboring areas in Kon Plong district into operation to provide early warning to people.

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center regularly informs the authorities and people in this area about earthquake activities, and the Institute's staff continues to monitor and process data on earthquakes in Kon Plong district.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh recommends that people should stay calm, strictly follow the instructions of local authorities and functional agencies; at the same time, proactively reinforce their houses and equip themselves with knowledge about earthquake prevention and control.

Affected localities, especially those near the epicenter, need to conduct damage assessment investigations, review weak structures to find appropriate solutions, and disseminate information about earthquake prevention to the public.

In addition, local authorities and functional agencies need to increase propaganda about these prevention and avoidance methods; at the same time, clearly inform people about the intensity and risk level of recent earthquakes.
