According to information from the Institute of Geophysics (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), in April 2024, 32 small earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 4.1 continued to occur nationwide, mainly concentrated in Kon Tum province.

The latest earthquake occurred at 8:05 a.m. on April 30 in Kon Plong district (a “hot spot” where earthquakes frequently occur across the country) in Kon Tum province. This was also the earthquake with the highest magnitude in April 2024.

According to the Institute of Geophysics, of the 32 earthquakes that occurred from the beginning of April until now, 31 occurred in Kon Plong district; 1 earthquake occurred in Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province.

The days with many earthquakes in April were: April 18 with 6 earthquakes; April 4 with 4 earthquakes; April 15 with 3 earthquakes; March 21 and 25 with 3 earthquakes.

In February, the country also experienced 17 earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 4.0, concentrated in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province.

In January, there were 8 earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 2.8 across the country (6 of which occurred in Kon Plong district; 2 other earthquakes occurred in Muong Te district, Lai Chau province and Luong Son district, Hoa Binh province).

Thus, in the first 4 months of 2024, there were 104 small earthquakes nationwide in the provinces of Kon Tum, Lai Chau, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang and Hanoi.

A representative of the Institute of Geophysics said that all of the above earthquakes were small earthquakes. Normally, earthquakes with a magnitude of less than 5 pose little risk of natural disasters.

Earthquakes of magnitude 5-6 or higher are moderate earthquakes, with a high risk of natural disasters; 6 or higher are major earthquakes, with a very high risk of natural disasters.

According to the regulations on "earthquake and tsunami prevention and control regulations," when receiving news of an earthquake or tsunami warning, people's committees at all levels must notify the people in the area; organize evacuation instructions and mobilize local means to help people evacuate to safety while taking measures to ensure security and order in the area.

Upon receiving news of an earthquake or tsunami warning, all citizens in the affected area must proactively evacuate from the dangerous area to ensure safety.
