On October 7, after several rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, the Israel Defense Forces declared a "state of war" and mobilized a large number of soldiers.
AFP and Reuters news agencies reported that the Israeli army announced that "several terrorists have entered" the country from the Gaza Strip. The army advised residents around the Gaza Strip to stay indoors, warning that the Hamas movement that controls the territory would pay the price for attacking Israel.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Defense Minister has approved the call-up of reservists. Updates say at least one person in Israel has died.
According to Xinhua News Agency, on the same day, Hamas leader Mohammed al-Deif announced the start of a new military campaign called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel. The group said it had launched more than 5,000 rockets in about 20 minutes.
Rocket warnings sounded for several minutes in southern areas around Gaza and in the greater Tel Aviv area in the early hours of October 7.
