On July 27, the Gaza Health Department said the Israeli army had airstrikes on a school with a field hospital in the Deir el-Balah area, killing at least 30 people and injuring over 100.
Gaza's civil defense authority said the school was housing about 4,000 people who had been displaced. Hospital director Khalil al-Daqran said the field hospital, located inside the school, was part of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah.
Hamas' media office said 15 children and eight women were among those killed.
For its part, the Israeli military said it struck a Hamas command center in the school complex.
According to health authorities in Gaza, at least 39,258 Palestinians have been killed and more than 90,500 have been injured by Israeli airstrikes and military attacks in the enclave since the conflict broke out last October.
According to Israeli figures, about 1,200 Israelis were killed and 250 were taken hostage in the surprise raid by Hamas gunmen on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel.
