In a statement, Iran's permanent mission to the United Nations said the United States needed to provide the Iranian government with evidence after accusing it of interfering in the US presidential election.
According to the TASS news agency on August 20, the statement said: “These accusations are baseless and unfounded… If the US government really believes this accusation, they should provide us with documents so that we can respond.”
Earlier, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a joint statement concluding that Iran sought to interfere in the US presidential election by carrying out cyber attacks on the campaign headquarters of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris.
US intelligence says that through social media and other technical efforts, Iran sought to reach individuals with direct access to the campaigns of both political parties.
In August, the FBI confirmed to TASS that it was investigating an alleged Iranian cyberattack on Trump's campaign headquarters. The Iranian mission to the United Nations told TASS that Iran had no intention or plans to carry out cyberattacks, stressing that the Iranian government did not interfere in the US presidential election.
