Iran has reacted strongly after Israel admitted for the first time that it was behind the killing of a Hamas leader in Iran.
On December 24, Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General, strongly criticizing Israel for what Tehran described as a "public statement" regarding the killing of Ismail Haniyeh - one of the leaders of the Hamas Islamist movement - in Iran in July.
In the letter, Ambassador Iravani stated that this was a condemnable act.
Previously, on December 23, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz admitted for the first time that his country was behind the incident when speaking at a ceremony honoring the ministry's soldiers.
