The first Hongqi HS5 arrives in Vietnam, competing with Santa Fe

A batch of HS5 cars imported from China has just been brought back to the country by Hongqi's distributor to deliver to customers before Lunar New Year.

Hongqi HS5 is expected to sell three versions from low to high and currently only the highest version (flagship) is available, priced at 870 million VND.

Hongqi launched the HS5 in 2019 and is the company's first SUV model. The version just launched in Vietnam is not the latest. The mid-cycle upgraded version (facelift) of the HS5 was introduced by the Chinese car company in 2023 within the framework of the Shanghai Motor Show.

The design of the HS5 version in Vietnam has an old design language, more monotonous than the H9 or E-HS9 that have been on the market for more than 2 years. The striped ribbon on the hood and extending down to the grille, or the red panel (like the logo) on the side of the HS5 are similar to Hongqi's latest models.

Hongqi HS5 has overall dimensions of length x width x height of 4,760 x 1,907 x 1,700 mm, wheelbase of 2,870 mm. These parameters are equivalent to D-size SUVs with unibody structure such as Hyundai Santa Fe 4,785 x 1,900 x 1,685 mm, wheelbase of 2,765 mm or Kia Sorento 4,810 x 1,900 x 1,700 mm, wheelbase of 2,815 mm.

The highest-end HS5 version is equipped with many amenities such as nappa leather interior, Alcantara material, 12-way power driver's seat, panoramic sunroof, HUD screen, 253-color interior ambient lighting...

The engine mounted on the Hongqi HS5 is a 2-liter turbocharged engine, 221 horsepower, 340 Nm torque, 6-speed automatic transmission, front-wheel drive.

The Chinese brand's SUV model is equipped with a variety of safety features such as blind spot warning, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, active cruise control, anti-roll control, electronic balance...

Hongqi HS5 is positioned as a D-size car but its selling price is much lower than its competitors. The most expensive price of HS5 is much lower than the standard versions of Santa Fe (VND 1.029-1.369 billion) or Kia Sorento (VND 1.069-1.604 billion).
