According to Carscoops, Honda has issued a new recall involving nearly 115,000 vehicles due to a defect that does not display images from the rear camera on the center screen. This includes Fit models manufactured from June 12, 2017 to November 30, 2020 and HR-V models manufactured from July 7, 2018 to April 25, 2022.
According to the Japanese automaker, these Fit and HR-V models are manufactured with an improperly designed power circuit. As a result, the power supply status to the display and audio components may decrease when starting the engine with the key. This may cause the rearview camera image to not be displayed.
Honda had previously attempted to fix the issue through a software update, but their solution was not enough to resolve the issue as the rear camera display still failed to function properly.
Between February 10, 2023 and April 27, 2024, Honda said it received 92 complaints and warranty claims related to the issue. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or deaths related to the defect.
The Japanese manufacturer also said that after receiving the information, they continuously investigated this issue throughout the first 5 months of this year. It was not until May 23 that Honda determined that the problem was a manufacturing defect that caused these cars to no longer meet safety standards in the US.
Dealers were notified of the recall on May 31, while owners will receive official information on July 8. Honda's solution this time is still to update the software for the display and audio or player of the car in the hope that this attempt will be effective.
