The 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting opened on November 16, with the goal of building a more cohesive, innovative and inclusive APEC.
The conference was chaired by US President Joe Biden.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Biden said the world is at a turning point, where the decisions made today will shape the course of not only member economies, for decades to come. Every economy will face the consequences of inaction, such as droughts, floods, rising sea levels, rising temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns. APEC economies bear the greatest responsibility for global affairs and have a responsibility to provide solutions while there is still time to change.
Mr Biden said climate security, energy security and food security are all linked. Only by working together can countries make real progress and meet the goal of keeping global temperature rise below 1.5 degrees Celsius.
According to Mr. Biden, the world can achieve the goal of funding $ 100 billion a year to fight climate change this year. Under the Paris Agreement, rich countries around the world reaffirmed their commitment to mobilize at least $ 100 billion annually to support developing countries to adapt to climate change, invest in renewable energy and move towards low-emission development.
Mr. Biden called on APEC economies to take strong actions to prevent climate change.
The APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting took place on November 16-17, bringing together economic leaders and businesses from 21 member economies.
The conference is a highlight event of the APEC Leaders' Week from November 11 to 17, with the theme "Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All".
