Tuition fees at many universities doubled last school year

Many universities plan to increase tuition fees for the 2023-2024 school year, with one school's highest increase doubling that of the previous school year.

Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy plans to collect an average tuition fee of 37.6 million VND/year for new students in the 2023-2024 school year (an increase of 13 million compared to last year). The school has not yet announced detailed tuition fees for each major.

Last year, the school planned to charge tuition fees for Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy at VND44.1 million per year. Tuition fees for Traditional Medicine and Preventive Medicine were expected to be VND39.2 million. Tuition fees for other majors ranged from VND29.4 to VND34.3 million. These levels all increased compared to the VND24.6 million tuition fee in 2021.

However, at the end of this year, the Government requested localities and educational institutions not to increase tuition fees to support students, low-income households, and disadvantaged households, stabilize prices, and control inflation. Therefore, the school returned to applying the old tuition fees.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy also increased tuition fees for the next school year. Specifically, the Public Health major increased tuition fees the most with 45 million VND/school year (an increase of 8 million VND compared to last year).

The tuition fees for Nursing, Nursing specializing in Anesthesia and Resuscitation, Midwifery, Dental Prosthetics, Medical Testing, Medical Imaging, Rehabilitation, and Nutrition are 41.8 million VND/school year (an increase of 4.8 million VND).

The majors with lower increases are Preventive Medicine and Traditional Medicine with tuition fees of 45 million VND/school year (increase of 3.2 million VND).

The three majors that keep their tuition fees the same are Dentistry, Medicine, and Pharmacy, with tuition fees of 77, 74.8, and 55 million VND/year, respectively.

Foreign Trade University plans to apply tuition fees for new students in 2023 - 2024, an increase of 5 - 10 million VND compared to last year.

Specifically, the general program is 25 million VND/school year, the high-quality program, career orientation and international development is 45 million VND/year. Compared to the 2022-2023 school year, this new tuition fee is expected to increase by 5 million VND/year.

Tuition for the advanced program is expected to be 70 million VND/year, an increase of 10 million; while the Hotel Management, Digital Marketing, Digital Business, and Integrated Marketing Communications programs remain at 60 million VND.

The Academy of Journalism and Communication plans to double tuition fees after two years of no increase adjustments according to Government regulations.

Specifically, the tuition fee for the general system is 506,900 VND/credit for the 2023-2024 student course (an increase of more than 224,000 VND/credit compared to the previous year). Similarly, the high-quality system also increased to 1.5 million VND/credit, compared to the old level of 771,000 VND/credit.

According to the enrollment plan of the Academy of Journalism and Propaganda, in the entire 4-year course, students will have to complete 143 credits, equivalent to about 72.5 million VND in tuition.

Two years ago, the University of Electricity stabilized the tuition fee at 14 million VND/academic year for full-time training majors in Economics and nearly 16 million VND for Engineering. Next school year, the tuition fee for these two majors will be nearly 16 and 18 million VND respectively, an increase of 14%.

National Economics University's tuition fee for the 2022-2023 school year for the regular standard program ranges from 15 million VND to 20 million VND/school year. Next school year, the school's tuition fee is expected to be from 16 million VND to 22 million VND/year.

Faculty of Medicine, National UniversityTPHOhChyesBrightIt is also expected to adjust tuition fees for the 2023-2024 school year for 5 training majors. Of which, the tuition fees for Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Traditional Medicine are 55 million VND/school year, an increase of 6 million VND compared to 2022. The tuition fees for Nursing are 40 million VND/school year (an increase of 3 million VND compared to last year).
