Storm No. 3 (Storm Yagi) swept through Hai Phong with wind force of level 12, causing damage of 10,820 billion VND, equal to 1/10 of the city's total budget revenue in 2023.
Hai Phong City People's Committee reported that as of September 14, storm No. 3 killed 2 people, injured 65 people, damaged 102,870 houses and 94 defense works, and broke more than 82,000 trees.
The agricultural sector suffered the heaviest damage, nearly 6,000 billion VND. Of which, the total affected crop area was more than 35,000 hectares (equivalent to 2,800 billion VND), the total damaged forest area was more than 3,300 hectares (450 billion VND), livestock damage was estimated at 460 billion VND, irrigation 61 billion VND, and aquaculture 1,160 billion VND.
In addition to restoring electricity and water, districts have asked the city to provide funding to repair schools, medical facilities, and repair agricultural damage.
Mr. Le Tien Chau, Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, directed all levels to provide specific guidance on statistics, avoid overlap, and comply with regulations and procedures in overcoming the consequences of the storm, strictly prohibiting profiteering.
Hai Phong City previously proactively balanced resources to overcome the consequences of the storm, allocating 100 billion VND from the central budget to support more difficult areas.
