Vietnam's No. 1 female tennis player won the right to enter the semi-finals of Vietnam Open 2023 after defeating Pornpicha Choeikeewong.

Nguyen Thuy Linh was rated higher than her opponent Pornpicha Choeikeewong. However, the Thai player created many difficulties for Thuy Linh. She continuously hit the ball deep to the back of the court to make things difficult for Thuy Linh and kept the score close at the beginning of the first set.

But when the score was 9-13, the Thai player showed signs of losing excitement. Thuy Linh proactively anticipated her opponent's serve situations, then dropped or "chopped" the ball shallowly to win points.

The first set ended with a score of 21-11 in favor of the home player.

In the second set, Pornpicha Choeikeewong started quickly. She used her ability to control the shuttlecock to the two corners of the court to win points. Meanwhile, Thuy Linh seemed to have a mental problem, so she missed many shots and fell behind. However, after a period of consultation with the coaching staff, Thuy Linh came back and scored 4 points in a row to tie the score at 14-14.

From this point on, the two players fought for every point. When the score was 20-19, Thuy Linh made a risky smash. The shot went close to the top of the net, leaving Pornpicha Choeikeewong helpless. Thuy Linh won 21-19, thereby winning 2-0 overall.

This victory helped Thuy Linh advance to the semi-finals. She is the defending champion of the tournament and the number 1 seed. The player from Phu Tho has many opportunities to defend her title as her biggest rival Riko Gunji was eliminated in the first round.

The Vietnam Open 2023 will take place from September 12-17 in Ho Chi Minh City. This year, the tournament will bring together 283 players from 23 countries and territories. The tournament is part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 100 system, with a total prize of 100,000 USD.
