Authorities have restricted people from releasing carp into West Lake (Hanoi) to avoid fish deaths on December 23.
On the morning of January 14 (December 23), on Trich Sai Street (Thuy Khue, Tay Ho), from Dinh Vong Thi to Sai Pagoda, a sign suddenly appeared "Strictly prohibit releasing aquatic species into the lake".
According to Ms. Vu Thi Minh Tam (Women's Association 15, Buoi Ward, Tay Ho District), the phenomenon of fish continuously dying and floating on the lake surface has appeared for more than 2 months now. "To avoid this situation from happening again, we have to encourage people to limit releasing fish on December 23rd," Ms. Tam added.
The local government also assigned police forces to work and propagate to people not to release fish. The Women's Union also instructed people to release fish into buckets and basins, then the authorities released them into the Red River, but many people still released fish into the lake, despite the authorities' prevention.
To limit environmental pollution from the disposal of plastic bags, incense burners, altars... on the day of sending the Kitchen Gods to heaven, a group of volunteers were present at Long Bien Bridge to assist people in releasing fish properly.
Along both sides of Long Bien Bridge, many propaganda slogans about how to release carp were hung up. Some athletes even set up tables and dressed up to attract people's attention to their activities.
Continuing the activities from 2021, this year's volunteers continue to carry out propaganda, divided into teams: Media team, fish release support team, incense ash collection team...
Volunteers collect the ashes, put them in bags, tie them with ropes and drop them down to the team below.
Volunteers at the bottom of Long Bien Bridge were tasked with receiving the ashes, releasing them into the river, and picking up trash to reduce the cloudiness of the ash when it was released. Duy Khanh (a first-year student at the University of Transport) and his teammates were there from 4am.
Taking on the task of releasing fish, Dieu Thuy (11th grade student, Cao Ba Quat High School) and her friends encouraged people not to release both fish and plastic bags into the river.
However, at the foot of the bridge, many people release fish into the Red River and throw plastic bags on the shore.
Packaging is hung on both sides of Chuong Duong bridge so that people have a place to throw trash after releasing fish.
At Thien Quang Lake, one of the most popular places for people to release fish in Hanoi, there are also many garbage trucks placed next to the paths leading to the lake.
