Hanoi records 25 more measles cases

Hanoi recorded 25 more measles cases, most of them were children who had not been vaccinated or had not received enough doses.

According to a representative of the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC), last week (from November 9 to November 15), Hanoi recorded 25 more measles cases, an increase of 9 cases compared to the previous week.

Among the newly recorded cases, 20 cases had not been vaccinated against measles and 5 cases had not received enough doses.

Thus, from the beginning of 2024 to now, the total number of measles cases in the city is 87. Measles cases were recorded in 23 districts of Hanoi, with no deaths recorded.

Accordingly, recorded measles cases are distributed by age group as follows: Nearly 29.9% of cases are children under 9 months old (accounting for 29.9%); 18.4% are children from 9-12 months old; 16.1% are children from 13-23 months old; 11.5% are children from 2-5 years old; 24.1% are children over 5 years old.

The leaders of Hanoi CDC said that the number of measles cases in Hanoi is on the rise. Patients have been recorded sporadically in different areas, mainly in people who have not been vaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated. It is forecasted that more cases may be recorded in the coming time. Hanoi CDC has requested district, county and town health centers to strengthen surveillance activities for suspected measles rash fever, conduct epidemiological investigations, collect samples for testing of 100% of suspected cases, organize zoning, and thoroughly handle areas with patients and outbreaks according to regulations.

Hanoi CDC has coordinated with relevant units to monitor, investigate and handle epidemics in areas with active cases and outbreaks. To prevent epidemics, especially measles, Hanoi CDC continues to closely monitor and promptly detect patients with infectious diseases in the community and decentralized medical facilities to grasp the epidemic situation, promptly investigate and handle cases and outbreaks.

At the same time, this unit strengthens communication work, timely and complete information on the epidemic situation, measures to prevent epidemics, especially measles. With measles having a vaccine, the health sector recommends that people proactively get vaccinated fully and on schedule according to instructions.
