New car models from Hyundai, Honda, Subaru, Volkswagen, BYD, Aion, Skoda are about to be launched, most of them appearing for the first time in Vietnam.
The Vietnam Motor Show (VMS) 2024, taking place in October, is where manufacturers will introduce many new models. Some brands not attending VMS also scheduled new product launches to prepare for the bustling year-end sales season.
Below is a summary of new car models of upgraded versions or new generations that first appeared in Vietnam in October.
Hyundai Tucson
The mid-cycle upgrade of Hyundai's C-size crossover (CUV) has arrived in Vietnam. The new Hyundai Tucson still retains its domestic assembly form.
The new Tucson has a slightly revised grille, front bumper and wheel design. The interior has received more upgrades with an entertainment screen connected to a new speedometer. The gear lever has been moved to a position behind the steering wheel.
The engine on the new Tucson is likely to remain the same as the previous version. Customers can choose the 1.6 turbocharged gasoline engine with 180 horsepower, maximum torque of 265 Nm, 7-speed DCT dual-clutch transmission. Or the 2.0 gasoline engine with 156 horsepower, torque of 192 Nm, 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 2.0 diesel engine has a capacity of 186 horsepower, maximum torque of 416 Nm, 8-speed automatic transmission.
Honda Civic hybrid
At VMS, the Japanese company introduced the Honda Civic hybrid for the first time. This is the second Honda model to have a hybrid gasoline engine option after the Honda CR-V.
Honda named the hybrid version of the Civic e:HEV RS. The car is equipped with a 2.0 gasoline engine combined with a motor, with a capacity of 200 horsepower, similar to the CR-V hybrid. Besides the hybrid version, the Civic still keeps the G and RS versions, both equipped with a 1.5 turbocharged gasoline engine with a capacity of 176 horsepower.
The exterior design of the Honda Civic e:HEV is slightly refined compared to the current version sold in Vietnam. The grille is renewed in a hexagonal style, with larger air intakes. The interior is slightly upgraded with a 12-speaker Bose sound system. Safety features with the Honda Sensing system are standard equipment on the new Civic.
Subaru Crosstrek
Entering the vibrant B-size CUV segment, Subaru brings the Crosstrek (formerly XV) back to Vietnam. The car is imported from Japan with two engine options: gasoline and hybrid.
Subaru Crosstrek has similar dimensions to Toyota Corolla Cross. The car has a ground clearance of 200 mm, surpassing most competitors in the B-class car segment.
All Subaru Crosstrek versions in Japan are equipped with a 2.0 Boxer hybrid engine. This engine combines a 2.0 gasoline engine with a capacity of 145 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, maximum torque of 188 Nm at 4,000 rpm and a 13.6 horsepower motor, torque of 65 Nm. CVT transmission.
In Indonesia, the first market in Southeast Asia to launch the third-generation Crosstrek, the engine is a 2.0 naturally aspirated type, with a capacity of 156 horsepower, torque of 196 Nm. CVT transmission and only AWD drive option.
Volkswagen Teramont President
The Teramont line will have one more choice for consumers when Volkswagen is about to sell a Chinese imported version with a 6-seat configuration and named President (tentatively). Currently, the Teramont line has a 7-seat version imported from the US and the Teramont X with a youthful design, lots of technology, imported from China.
Volkswagen Teramont, which is about to be sold in Vietnam, is equipped with a 2.0 TSI turbocharged engine with a capacity of 217 horsepower at 4,900-6,700 rpm, torque of 350 Nm at 1,600-4,300 rpm. 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, 4WD 4-wheel drive.
Skoda Kodiaq
The new generation of the Czech brand's 7-seat SUV will be present at the VMS exhibition, along with a number of new products. The exterior of the Skoda Kodiaq 2024 inherits many design points of its predecessor, but the interior has been completely transformed.
The new Kodiaq has a 13-inch central touch screen floating on the dashboard. The center console area near the armrest has been removed. The electronic gear lever has been moved to a position behind the steering wheel. In the Czech Republic, the Kodiaq comes with a choice of 5 or 7 seats.
In terms of engines, the new Skoda Kodiaq has two options of petrol or diesel engines. The diesel engine comes with 2.0 turbocharged engines with different performance of 147 horsepower, 360 Nm of torque and 190 horsepower, 400 Nm of torque.
The 1.5 turbocharged petrol engine produces 147 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Another option is the 1.5 turbocharged PHEV petrol engine with a total output of 201 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.
All versions of the Skoda Kodiaq come with a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The petrol and diesel versions are 7-speed. The PHEV version is 6-speed.
BYD M6 and Tang duo
China's largest electric car company will launch two more electric products in Vietnam: M6 (mid-size MPV segment) and Tang (D-size SUV).
In China, the BYD M6 is equipped with a 55.4 kWh battery, with a range of 420 km. In Indonesia and Thailand, the BYD M6 has a larger battery option, a 71.8 kWh type, with a range of 530 km. With the 55.4 kWh battery, the car has a DC fast charging mode with a capacity of 89 kW, which means it takes about 36 minutes to fully charge the battery. With a standard 7 kW charger, the battery will take about 8 hours to fully charge.
The drive motor for the 7-seat MPV model of BYD is located on the front axle, with a capacity of 161 horsepower and torque of 310 Nm.
With BYD Tang, the car joins the race with gasoline and diesel competitors on the market such as Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner. In China, BYD Tang has three variants, including 90.3 kWh battery - 600 km range, all front-wheel drive FWD. The highest version uses 108.8 kWh battery - 635 km range, 2-wheel drive.
The motor on the standard BYD Tang is mounted on the front axle, with a capacity of 225 horsepower and a torque of 350 Nm. The mid-range version has a motor with a capacity of 241 horsepower and a pulling force of 350 Nm. The highest-end version of the Tang has a motor with a capacity of 241 horsepower on the front axle and 268 horsepower on the rear axle. The torque of both front and rear axles is 350 Nm.
Regarding the controversial name Tang, BYD Vietnam said it would not change it because it wanted to synchronize product identity globally.
Aion ES and Y Plus Duo
The Chinese automaker will introduce two pure electric models, the ES (D-segment sedan) and Y Plus (B+-segment CUV) in October.
In China, the Aion Y Plus comes in four versions with four different battery capacities. The standard version has a 37.9 kWh battery with a range of 310 km. The larger battery versions have a 51.9 kWh battery (430 km), a 61.7 kWh battery (510 km), and a 69.9 kWh battery (610 km).
The two lower versions of the Y Plus are equipped with an electric motor with a capacity of 134 horsepower and a torque of 176 Nm, while the two higher versions have a capacity of 201 horsepower and a torque of 225 Nm. All are front-wheel drive.
The Aion ES is the same size as the D-class sedan, Toyota Camry, but has a 75 mm shorter wheelbase. The car's design is youthful and sporty.
In China, the Aion ES offers two battery options, a 58 kWh battery with a range of 510 km, and a 68 kWh battery with a range of 610 km on a full charge. Both versions use an electric motor mounted on the front axle, with a capacity of 201 horsepower and a torque of 350 Nm.
