The EU is contributing 21 million euros ($22.8 million) to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund to support people facing extreme poverty.
The Khaama Press news portal quoted the World Food Programme (WFP) as saying that the European Union (EU) has contributed 21 million euros (22.8 million USD) to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund.
Some 300,000 people in Afghanistan are expected to benefit from the fund.
According to the EU, the main purpose of this support is to improve food security and nutrition in Afghanistan.
Ms. Rafaela Iodice, EU official in Afghanistan, affirmed that the EU will continue to support the Afghan people.
The announcement came as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the global body could only secure 3% of the budget needed to address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
Recent earthquakes and the expulsion of migrants from neighboring countries are increasing the need for aid in Afghanistan.
The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan remains dire, with millions of people facing extreme poverty, displacement and food insecurity.
In addition, years of conflict, political instability and the return of the Taliban to power have exacerbated the above challenges.
