According to the assessment of the interdisciplinary inspection team, the expected yield of Hai Duong's winter-spring rice crop is estimated at 61.5 quintals/ha, 2 quintals/ha higher than the same period last year.
On the morning of October 2, an interdisciplinary delegation from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Planning and Investment, and the Hai Duong Statistics Office inspected the actual situation and assessed the productivity of the winter-spring rice crop in Hai Duong.
According to the assessment of the interdisciplinary inspection team, at the beginning of the crop, the weather was favorable, less affected by storms, after sowing, the weather was less hot, with intermittent showers, farmers actively fertilized, so the rice tillered quickly and favorably, the plants were tall and even. In the middle of the crop, there was a lot of rain but no flooded rice areas, the rice fields grew well, with fewer pests and diseases than in previous years. The estimated average yield of the winter-spring crop was 61.5 quintals/ha, 2 quintals/ha higher than the same period last year.
To ensure the yield of summer-autumn rice and promote the season for winter-spring crop production, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that districts, towns and cities direct farmers to mobilize maximum machinery, quickly harvest the summer-autumn rice area with the motto "greener at home than ripe in the fields", when the rice is over 80% ripe, it can be harvested to minimize damage caused by weather, ensuring land clearance to expand the winter-spring crop area. For late-autumn rice, continue to strengthen inspection and assessment of the development of pests and diseases that arise at the end of the season such as: leaf blight, bacterial stripe spot, brown planthopper, rice blast, stem rot... to focus on directing farmers to prevent and control them promptly when the threshold is reached, minimizing the impact on productivity from pests and diseases.
In the 2023 crop, the whole province planted nearly 54,000 hectares. By early October, localities had harvested over 12,000 hectares, accounting for about 24% of the total cultivated rice area. The large harvested rice areas were mainly early-season rice in Kinh Mon town, Nam Sach, Thanh Mien, Gia Loc districts...
