On May 23, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with a working group from the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) to inspect and evaluate the results of winter-spring rice production in the province.
According to the inspection team, this year's winter-spring crop has relatively favorable weather conditions, and farmers have actively fertilized the rice, so the tillers grow quickly, the plants are tall and uniform, and there are few pests and diseases. Early spring rice is preparing for harvest, while late spring rice has blossomed and turned red. The expected rice yield is about 67 quintals/ha, equivalent to the same period last year. Of which, the area of rice grown by machine will have a higher yield of 2.4 - 4.3 quintals/ha compared to traditional cultivation and a higher income of 3.8 - 4.2 million VND/ha.
To ensure the productivity of winter-spring rice, the Department of Crop Production recommends that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and localities focus on directing farmers to take advantage of the sunny weather to mobilize maximum harvesters and human resources to quickly harvest ripe rice areas according to the motto "green at home is better than ripe in the fields" to minimize damage caused by unfavorable weather at the end of the season. Harvested rice areas need to quickly prepare the land and sow the summer-autumn crop as soon as possible to limit flooding in the early stages of the season and create land to expand the winter-autumn crop planting area in 2023-2024.
