Five players of the Vietnamese team will have their yellow cards removed in the final match of the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
In the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 semi-final against Singapore, the Vietnamese team won with a score of 3-1 and entered the final with a total score of 5-1.
This victory also helped the Vietnamese team maintain a 26-year unbeaten streak against Singapore (since the 0-1 loss in the 1998 Tiger Cup final) with a total of 16 matches (8 wins, 8 draws).
However, up to 4 players of the Vietnamese team received yellow cards at Viet Tri stadium, including Nguyen Dinh Trieu, Bui Tien Dung, Nguyen Xuan Son and Ho Tan Tai.
If counting Nguyen Thanh Chung's yellow card in the first leg of the semi-final, the Vietnamese team has a total of 5 players receiving yellow cards before the two final matches.
However, the good news for fans is that at this year's tournament, the Southeast Asian Football Federation has issued new regulations on penalty cards. Accordingly, all players who receive yellow cards in the group stage will have their cards erased when they enter the semi-finals. Similarly, yellow cards in the semi-finals will also be erased in the final match of the ASEAN Cup 2024.
The Organizing Committee's removal of all 5 yellow cards helped the Vietnamese players comfortably enter the two final matches.
In addition, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team have an advantage over their opponents in the final because they have one more day off and do not have to travel because they will play the first leg at home on January 2, 2025.
