Thailand's Olympic team changed its uniform after the original design was criticized by many viewers as being uglier than other countries.
The National Olympic Council of Thailand (NOCT) has decided to change its uniforms before the country's participation in the opening ceremony in Paris, France on July 26. One of the four new uniforms is a dark blue jacket with a vertical red stripe down the middle. The outfit has a pattern inspired by the Ban Chiang ceramic pattern, designed by Grand Sports and four other units.
According toBangkok Post, the previous uniform of the Thai Olympic team was introduced through a photo series of badminton star Sapsiree Taerattanachai. Many Thai audiences criticized the outfit as being bland compared to other countries. Some commented that the outfit was somewhat similar to the style of local officials wearing in administrative meetings, lacking the Olympic atmosphere.
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin then said that the audience should respect the designer, because beauty and ugliness depend on each person's subjective view. Government spokesmanChai Wacharonke said the outfit aims to promote Thailand's soft power, produced using environmentally friendly technology with fabric recycled from plastic bottles.
The fashion of the Olympic teams has been of interest to the audience ahead of the opening ceremony. One of the countries whose uniforms have been praised is Mongolia, with its traditional dress style embroidered with flames - the Olympic symbol and a mythological image in this country.
The Olympics will take place in Paris (France) from July 26 to August 11, with 10,672 athletes from 196 countries and territories competing in 392 events in 32 sports. This is the third time France has hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Games (after 1900 and 1924) in history.
