Actor Quoc Tuan unexpectedly returns to the screen

"Coolie Never Cries" attracted attention when it won the Best Debut Film category at the Berlin International Film Festival (Germany) in February 2024.

This is the first time Vietnam has had a film win this category. However, domestic audiences will have to wait 9 months to enjoy this film in theaters from November 15.

Returning from a trip to Europe, Mrs. Nguyen (People's Artist Minh Chau) brought with her ex-husband's ashes and a coolie he left behind. In the midst of her confusing and inexplicable state of mind, she suddenly learned that her niece was preparing to marry her younger lover.

By chance, she met a young man and invited him to go on a long trip together, to meet old friends she had not seen for many years.

The film's story is about Ms. Nguyen's journey of keeping a tight connection with the past, sketching out present life with the complex echoes of social change, in a quiet, contemplative and poetic perspective.

The film was conceived in 2016 and took 8 years to reach the audience. The filming time of the film is divided into 2 phases, about 7 months apart. The first phase lasts from the end of 2021 to the beginning of 2022 and the second phase in mid-2022.

To date, "Cu Li Never Cries" has set foot in 18 film festivals, won 5 awards and is expected to continue to participate in more than 10 other prestigious film events before the end of 2024.

In addition to the Best Debut Film award at the Berlin Film Festival, the film also won Best Film in the International Film Competition category at the Jeonju International Film Festival, the Da Nang Asian Film Festival, etc.

"Cu li khong bao khong cry" marks the on-screen collaboration between Quoc Tuan and Minh Chau, two veteran artists of Vietnam Feature Film Studio, playing old friends.

This is the second movie released in theaters within the past year by actor Quoc Tuan after The Last Wife.

Meanwhile, "Cu li khong bao khong cry" is a rare film that People's Artist Minh Chau has participated in for many years since "Bi Thuong Tinh Bac" (2010).
