On July 27, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team defeated Thailand 2-0 to win the world gold medal for the first time in history.

The 2022 Sepak Takraw World Championship will take place in Thailand from July 24 to 31. Thailand is also the world's No. 1 powerhouse in Sepak Takraw, with Vietnam regularly ranked in the top 3.
Participating in the 2022 World Sepak Takraw Championship, the Vietnamese Sepak Takraw team has the participation of 15 athletes (9 female athletes, 6 male athletes) and 4 coaches.
On July 27, the Vietnamese girls excellently defeated host Thailand in the women's team event with a score of 2-0 (the scores of the sets were 21-15 and 23-21) to win the world gold medal in this event for the first time in history.
Participating in the 4-women team event were 6 athletes, the ones who brought home the precious gold medals were Nguyen Thi My, Nguyen Thi Yen, Tran Thi Ngoc Yen, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen, Tran Thi Thu Hoai, Nguyen Thi Thu Trang.

Mr. Le Thanh Son - in charge of Sepak Takraw, General Department of Sports and Physical Training said this is a miracle of Vietnamese girls.
"The Vietnamese sepak takraw team has won the world gold medal, but this is the first time in the women's team category. It is worth mentioning that we won against the Thai team right on Thai soil. With this squad, Thailand defeated Vietnam in the final match at the 31st SEA Games held last May in Vietnam," Mr. Son shared.
In addition, at the end of the competition day on July 27, the Vietnamese sepak takraw team also won 1 silver medal in the 4-men team event and 1 bronze medal in the 3-men team event.
The Vietnamese Sepak Takraw team participated in 6/10 events of the 2022 Sepak Takraw World Championship. On July 28, the athletes continued to compete in the remaining events of the tournament.
