Initial reports said the incident occurred at around 11:50 a.m. local time when a bullet accidentally fired from the front gun of the HTMS Chonburi accidentally hit the rear of the HTMS Khirirat and caused a fire. Both Thai navy ships were anchored at Laem Thian Pier, Sattahip Naval Base in Chon Buri Province in eastern Thailand.

Firefighters quickly responded to control the fire on the warship HTMS Khirirat. It is known that the ship has served the Royal Thai Navy for more than 40 years, belonging to the 1st Frigate Fleet, Fleet Operations Command.

Meanwhile, the HTMS Chonburi, which had just participated in a live-fire exercise on March 13, returned to base for repairs because one of its guns malfunctioned during operation, with an unused shell still in the barrel.
