In the new year 2025, Hai Duong will put the East-West axis road into operation. Like a 'silk strip' connecting Thanh Mien, Ninh Giang, and Tu Ky districts, this road will contribute to the socio-economic development of many localities, promoting regional connectivity.

New road

Born and raised in Phuong Ky commune (now Lac Phuong commune, Tu Ky), every time he remembers the swaying scene when going on the Mu pontoon bridge with rusty iron plates attached to old wooden bars, Pham Quoc Tiep feels a shiver.

Mr. Tiep said that previously, the road from Phuong Ky commune to Ha Ky commune across Cai river (also known as Tu Ky river belonging to Bac Hung Hai irrigation system) had to go through Mu pontoon bridge. The bridge was patchwork, degraded, and dangerous. Since hearing the news that Bac Hung Hai bridge, part of the East-West Axis Road Project, was being built, everyone in the commune was happy.

The 36.6 km East-West axis road passes through Thanh Mien, Ninh Giang, and Tu Ky districts; designed as a level III plain scale, with a roadbed width of 12 m, a road surface of 11 m, and a design speed of 80 km/h. On the route, 6 new bridges will be built and renovated. The project is invested by the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board, and started in April 2022. Some sections of the route are under construction and in operation at the same time. Up to now, the East-West axis road has basically completed the entire route, and some areas are completing the construction of the traffic safety system; striving to have the entire road open before the Lunar New Year 2025.

The asphalt concrete road starts from the intersection with Provincial Road 392C in Doan Ket Commune (Thanh Mien) like a 'silk strip' through fields, residential areas, rivers, and bustling, bustling residential areas. The end point of the project intersects with Provincial Road 391 in Lac Phuong Commune. This will be one of the most beautiful provincial roads in Hai Duong.

This route connects with many main routes such as Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway, North - South axis road, national highways 10, 37, 38B and many provincial roads of Hai Duong, Hung Yen..., forming a connected and smooth traffic route, promoting the socio-economic development of Hai Duong province.

Synchronous connection

Currently, at the starting and ending points of the East-West axis, two traffic projects are being implemented to continue the connection. These are the Hai Hung Bridge Project and the connecting road connecting the East-West axis of Hai Duong province with provincial road 389 in Phu Cu district (Hung Yen). In which, Hai Duong province invested in a 180 m long connecting road, costing about 60 billion VND. The Hai Hung Bridge project across the Chanh River is invested by Hung Yen province.

The investment project to build the extended provincial road 396 (the section connecting from provincial road 391 to provincial road 390) has its starting point connecting to the intersection between the East-West axis road and provincial road 391 at km24+600 in Lac Phuong commune, with a main route length of about 7.6 km. Of which, the section in Thanh Ha district is about 3.66 km, the section in Tu Ky district is about 3.95 km.

After the above projects are completed, the regional transport infrastructure network will continue to be completed, forming a belt axis of the province connecting the districts of Binh Giang, Thanh Mien, Ninh Giang, Tu Ky and Thanh Ha. This road connects with the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway and National Highway 37, facilitating traffic and linking the southeastern districts of Hai Duong province with neighboring provinces and cities.

The completion of the East-West Axis Road Project marks a new step in the development of Hai Duong's transport infrastructure. This is also one of the province's key projects in the 2020-2025 period.
