Natasa Pirc Musar has won the second round of Slovenia's presidential election and will become the country's first female president.
According to preliminary election results after counting 98% of the votes, Ms. Musar won 54% of the votes, while Mr. Anze Logar, former Foreign Minister of Slovenia, MP of the opposition center-right Slovenian Democratic Party, won only 46% of the votes.
Earlier, Slovenian voters went to the polls on the same day for the second round of the presidential election. In the first round, the two candidates who won the most votes were Mr. Anze Logar, former Foreign Minister of Slovenia, and independent candidate, lawyer Natasa Pirc Musar.
However, no candidate won a majority of votes in the first round of the election on October 23, so they had to go into the second round.
Ms Musar, 54, is a former journalist and influential lawyer who worked at Slovenia's Data Protection Authority.
Ms Musar is expected to take office on December 23 when the term of outgoing President Borut Pahor ends. The new President of Slovenia will serve a five-year term.
