Former Director of Bach Mai Hospital Nguyen Quang Tuan asked to return to practice

On the morning of July 10, a representative of Friendship Hospital said that after serving his sentence, Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan, former Director of Bach Mai Hospital, submitted an application to practice at the hospital to qualify for a practice certificate.

"After receiving Mr. Tuan's application, the hospital reviewed and accepted. Mr. Tuan started practicing at the hospital from July 1st,"this one said

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Health, Mr. Tuan will have to practice again from the beginning within 12 months as a newly graduated doctor, to be considered for a practicing certificate. Once he has a new practicing certificate, he can return to practicing medicine and prescribing.

Previously, in April 2023, former Director of Bach Mai Hospital Nguyen Quang Tuan and 11 others were sentenced to prison in connection with the price hike of medical supplies, causing losses of more than VND53 billion.

The trial panel determined that Mr. Tuan's violations were not related to medical expertise but only within the scope of state management.

Mr. Tuan is not prohibited from holding positions or practicing after being released from prison, and can practice again when he is granted a license or certificate.

Mr. Tuan used to be the director of two major hospitals, Bach Mai and Hanoi Heart Hospital. He is also a member of the 14th National Assembly for the 2016-2021 term, belonging to the Hanoi National Assembly Delegation.

He was recognized by the State Council of Professors as meeting the standards for the title of professor in medicine in 2017.

During his career, he was awarded many noble medals. He was a professor and doctor who trained many generations of doctors. He saved many lives in his medical career and was praised by the people.
