In the past half month, there have been three accidents on the Hanoi - Hai Phong and Trung Luong - My Thuan expressways, killing five people and injuring many others. The Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) assessed that the accidents were mainly due to a low level of awareness of traffic safety and order among some people, who did not follow the rules and lacked experience when participating in traffic on the expressway.

Based on this reality, on the afternoon of July 16, the Traffic Police Department recommended that to ensure safety when encountering an accident on the highway, drivers should stick reflective paper on the back of their vehicles. The vehicle should have at least three cones or three reflective triangles; reflective vests should be worn when encountering an accident at night, in fog, or at night.

Drivers need to check their vehicles and routes before entering the highway; while driving, they must strictly comply with road traffic laws such as paying attention to driving, driving in the correct lane, speed, keeping a safe distance and absolutely not reversing on the highway.

When encountering an incident, the Traffic Police Department recommends that drivers stay calm, observe, turn on the turn signal, and try to slowly move the vehicle from the roadway lane by lane until it is close to the right side of the road, or the emergency lane. Then, the driver continues to turn on the turn signal; get out of the vehicle, wear a reflective vest at night, and immediately place three cones or a reflective triangle behind the vehicle to warn at a distance of 100 m on the highway.

The Traffic Police Department reminds drivers not to walk on the highway, not to gather in large groups to argue, and to stay outside the guardrail to ensure safety. Drivers should then call the authorities for assistance.
