Workers anxiously await Tet bonus

Mr. Nguyen Van Bang (born in 1994) has been working for Hyundai Kefico Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Dai An Industrial Park for more than 2 years. At the end of the year, what he looks forward to the most is the Tet bonus. Because this is the amount of money that will help him and his family have a more fulfilling Tet holiday.

"This year, the company has faced many difficulties, so there are months when workers' incomes have decreased compared to before. Although we know that the company is struggling, all workers are looking forward to the Tet bonus. Last year, we received a Tet bonus of 1 month's salary, but this year the company has not announced the specific bonus amount, so we are very nervous," said Mr. Bang.

Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan in Cam Thuong Ward (Hai Duong City) has been working at Tran An Garment Company Limited for many years. Her husband works at a private mechanical engineering company. In addition to spending, the couple's monthly salary also has to take care of their three children's education and their elderly parents. Therefore, almost every month, her family only has enough to scrape together daily life and occasionally save a little for emergencies.

Every year-end, Ms. Lan always looks forward to the company's Tet bonus to shop for both sides of the family and buy new clothes for the children. Ms. Lan said: "If there is no Tet bonus, my husband and I will have to use our small savings to spend. Every year, I only go shopping when I have the Tet bonus. If the company gives a big bonus, that year's Tet will be full. If the bonus is small, we have to weigh and measure it appropriately."

Up to this point, in Hai Duong, there is still no comprehensive data on the Tet bonus situation of enterprises. However, through surveys at some units, this year's Tet bonus is still equal to one month's basic salary, equivalent to last year. Some businesses that do well promise higher Tet bonuses. In addition to bonuses, many businesses also organize activities to show gratitude to employees such as: lucky draws, gift giving, year-end parties...; support shuttle buses, give money for bus tickets, give gifts... for workers who live far away to return home for Tet. Typically, Tinh Loi Garment Company Limited organized a lucky draw with a total prize value of up to 1.2 billion VND. Viet Tri Garment Joint Stock Company spent 1 billion VND to organize a year-end party to show gratitude to employees...

Currently, trade unions at all levels in the province have been implementing many activities to encourage and motivate businesses to do a good job of giving Tet bonuses to employees. “We have directed grassroots trade unions to closely follow the production and business activities of enterprises. From there, there will be a plan to negotiate Tet bonus levels suitable to the conditions of the enterprise, ensuring maximum welfare for employees,” said a representative of the Provincial Labor Federation.

Understanding with business

Giving Tet bonuses to workers is not a mandatory regulation for businesses. However, for many years, this activity has been maintained by businesses to show gratitude and retain workers, while creating strengths in attracting new human resources. In the current context, businesses also have their own advantages and disadvantages, so workers need to understand, accompany and share.

Hyundai Kefico Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Dai An Industrial Park) specializes in manufacturing smart electronic components and currently has more than 2,000 workers. In 2024, this enterprise suffered great damage due to storm No. 3, causing many difficulties in production and business. However, in order for all employees to have a warm and prosperous Tet holiday, the enterprise still tries to maintain an average Tet bonus of 7.7 million VND/employee, equivalent to last year's Tet holiday.

"During this difficult period, this Tet bonus is the company's effort to ensure the welfare and care for the lives of its workers. In addition to the Tet bonus, the company still maintains the activity of giving Tet gifts to workers and arranging buses to take workers from far away to their hometowns for Tet," said a company official.

In 2024, the beer production and consumption industry continues to face many difficulties such as continuous disruption of raw material supply, high prices, fierce competition... In that situation, the Board of Directors of Hanoi - Hai Duong Beer Joint Stock Company has proposed many solutions to overcome difficulties, develop production, ensure income for workers, and even increase the average income by 4% compared to 2023. Especially on the occasion of Tet At Ty 2025, the company still tries to maintain the 13th month salary bonus equivalent to 2024 and has gifts of the company's products.

Besides the businesses facing difficulties, there are also many units that maintain and develop production and business activities well. Typically, Viet Tri Garment Joint Stock Company (Thanh Mien) currently has about 1,200 employees. In 2024, the consumption market will be better, so the business will export about 17 million products, an increase of 10% compared to last year.

“To show gratitude to workers, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, Viet Tri Garment Joint Stock Company will reward workers with an average bonus of 9-10 million VND/person, an increase of 10% compared to 2023. Workers who have been with the company for 5 years or more will be given a savings book worth 20-30 million VND, depending on their position and productivity,” said Dao Dinh Du, Director of Viet Tri Garment Joint Stock Company.

According to the Provincial Federation of Labor, with the motto "All union members and workers have Tet", all levels of unions in the province will organize a variety of activities to visit and give Tet gifts to union members and workers on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2025, especially union members and workers in difficult circumstances, low income, suffering from serious illnesses, occupational accidents, unemployment, unpaid wages, bonuses, etc. In addition, the Provincial Federation of Labor also organizes the "Union Tet Market" program to provide essential, quality goods and services at preferential prices; organize cultural and sports activities, health consultation, free medicine, etc. for union members and workers.

Tet is near, hopefully with the attention of businesses and trade unions at all levels will bring a full and happy spring to union members and workers in the province.
