The Traffic Police Department (Hanoi Police) has denied false information on social networks and some media channels that has caused many people to misunderstand that: 'Stopping a motorbike while wearing a raincoat can result in a fine of up to 14 million VND'.
On February 9, the Hanoi Traffic Police Department said that the law does not prohibit stopping a vehicle to wear a raincoat; there is no such thing as stopping a motorbike while wearing a raincoat and being fined up to 14 million VND. However, if stopping or parking a vehicle in violation of regulations, causing obstruction or causing a traffic accident, the violator will be punished.
According to current regulations, stopping or parking on bridges is subject to a fine of 600,000-800,000 VND; the same act in tunnels is subject to a fine of 800,000-1,000,000 VND. The highest fine of 10-14 million VND is only applied to stopping or parking in violation of regulations causing traffic accidents.
Hanoi Traffic Police Department recommends that traffic participants need to clearly understand the regulations to ensure safety for themselves and the community; need to consult and look up information from official sources.
