Chairman and Vice Chairman of Quang Nam province were dismissed.

At the extraordinary meeting held on the morning of April 8, the People's Council of Quang Nam province voted and unanimously dismissed Mr. Thanh and Quang with 100% of the delegates present agreeing (54 delegates, 4 absent).

ReplyVnExpress, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Lan, Head of the Propaganda Department and Spokesperson of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee, said that Mr. Thanh and Quang submitted their resignations from the positions of Provincial Chairman and Vice Chairman in November 2023, after being disciplined by the Central Inspection Committee.

Up to now, the Secretariat has agreed to let Mr. Le Tri Thanh resign from the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province and the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee has agreed to express the wishes of Mr. Thanh and Mr. Quang.

From 2022, the Politburo encourages cadres who have been disciplined with warnings or reprimands but whose capacity is limited and whose prestige has been reduced to voluntarily resign. Cadres under the management of the Politburo and the Secretariat, after being disciplined, if they do not voluntarily resign, will be considered for dismissal by competent authorities according to regulations.

Three months ago, the Prime Minister reprimanded Quang Nam Province Chairman Le Tri Thanh and warned Vice Chairman Nguyen Hong Quang for violations and shortcomings in his work.

In November 2023, a series of leaders and former leaders of Quang Nam province were disciplined by the Central Inspection Commission from reprimand to expulsion from the Party. Among them, Mr. Nguyen Hong Quang was warned about the Party, and Mr. Le Tri Thanh was reprimanded.

At today's meeting, 100% of the delegates of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Council also agreed to dismiss Mr. Phan Viet Cuong from the position of Chairman of the People's Council for the 2021-2026 term.

Last November, Mr. Phan Viet Cuong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Nam province, was proposed for disciplinary action by the Central Inspection Committee. Mr. Cuong then requested to retire 6 months early due to health reasons (from January 1, 2024). Earlier this year, the Central Committee allowed him to resign from the position of member of the 13th Party Central Committee, according to his personal wishes.

According to the Central Inspection Commission, the Party Executive Committee of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province violated the principle of democratic centralism and working regulations; lacked responsibility, and slackened leadership and direction.

As a result, the Provincial People's Committee and many organizations and individuals violated Party regulations and State laws in the work of preventing and fighting the Covid-19 epidemic and receiving citizens returning home to prevent and fight the epidemic; managing and using land for a number of investment projects and implementing projects/bid packages carried out by the International Progress Joint Stock Company (AIC); many officials and Party members were criminally prosecuted.

These violations have "caused serious consequences, damage and risk of major damage to State money and property, bad public opinion in society, affecting the reputation of the Party organization and local government".
