On August 28, the Hai Duong Department of Health requested units in the industry and private medical facilities to strengthen prevention of monkeypox.
Accordingly, the Provincial Center for Disease Control proactively coordinates with local media agencies to provide guidance on measures to prevent monkeypox according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health so that people can proactively report to health agencies when there are signs of suspicion or infection. Coordinate with medical facilities to investigate and monitor suspected cases of monkeypox, collect samples for testing and send them to the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for diagnosis and determination of the cause of the disease. Review the quantity of chemicals, equipment, and medical supplies, from which to plan purchases to ensure epidemic prevention activities. Prepare human resources to promptly support localities when requested.
Health centers of districts, towns and cities increase information and communication on measures to prevent monkeypox epidemic according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health, focusing on communication for high-risk groups. Proactively coordinate with the provincial Center for Disease Control to investigate and closely monitor suspected cases and take samples for testing.
Medical examination and treatment facilities review and prepare medicines, medical equipment, human resources, and funding to implement measures for admission, treatment, and disease prevention. Coordinate with the provincial Center for Disease Control in taking samples for testing of suspected cases to determine the cause of the disease.
The Department of Health assigned the Provincial Hospital of Tropical Diseases to be the focal point to organize and implement guidelines for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of monkeypox in humans for medical examination and treatment facilities in the province.
Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by the monkeypox virus. In 2024, especially in the last 2 months, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recorded an unusual increase in the number of monkeypox cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since the beginning of the year, the country has recorded about 15,600 cases, including more than 537 deaths. In addition, 4 neighboring countries, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, have recorded cases for the first time.
In Vietnam, in 2023-2024, 199 cases of monkeypox were recorded, including 8 deaths.
