US and British forces launch strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen on January 22, 2024

On September 24, the head of the Southern Transitional Council in the Yemeni Presidential Council, Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, said that the US and UK airstrikes targeting Houthi rebel targets in Yemen have not weakened the capabilities of this force.

According to Mr. Al-Zubaidi, the US and UK airstrikes are not really effective militarily. The Saudi-led Arab coalition has also attacked Houthi missile launchers over the past eight years, but has not been able to defeat the force.

Mr. Al-Zubaidi called for better coordination between Yemen's Presidential Council and Western powers to counter the threat posed by the Houthis to regional security.

He added that it was time to accept that the power-sharing deal with the Houthis struck last year could not be implemented.

The Houthis have carried out numerous drone and missile attacks on commercial vessels traveling in the Red Sea since November 2023 in retaliation for Israel's military campaign in the Gaza Strip.
