A Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM) is launched from the US Navy destroyer USS Gravely against Houthi military targets in Yemen, March 3.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on August 10 that it had destroyed a missile launcher, an unmanned surface vessel (USV) and two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Red Sea belonging to the Houthi movement, the force controlling northern Yemen.

"Over the past 24 hours, CENTCOM successfully destroyed an Iranian-backed Houthi missile launcher and a USV in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen. Additionally, CENTCOM forces successfully destroyed two Houthi UAVs over the Red Sea," the CENTCOM statement said.

According to CENTCOM, these weapons pose a clear threat to US and coalition forces, as well as merchant shipping in the region.

In November 2023, the Houthis announced that they would attack any ships linked to Israel until it stopped its military actions in the Gaza Strip.

Amid continuing Houthi attacks, some companies have suspended shipments through the Red Sea.

The attacks prompted the US to form a multinational coalition, including the UK and several other countries, to protect shipping in the Red Sea region, as well as attack Houthi targets on the ground.
