Tsingy Stone Forest, located along the remote western coast of Madagascar, is famous for its jagged, jagged rock towers that can reach heights of up to 50 metres, with some reaching 70 metres.

About 200 million years ago, this forest is believed to have been completely submerged in sea water. As the geological process took place, they were gradually pushed up, the limestone blocks were gradually eroded over time by rain and wind, forming the sharp rocks as they are today.

Because it is a forest full of jagged, pointed rock towers, the name Tsingy was given by the locals and means "the place where one cannot walk" in Malagasy.

The Tsingy Stone Forest is divided into two areas, with the north being a nature reserve and the south being the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park. The flora and fauna of Tsingy are distributed according to altitude. Below the “sky-piercing blades” are gorges and caves that are damp and dark. These are ideal shelters for some invertebrates and amphibians.

The narrow, rugged gorges provide excellent habitat for endangered species, such as the lemur. Thanks to its unique topography, mangrove forests, and populations of wild birds, gibbons, and foxes, the area was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990.

Due to the rugged terrain, although this place is famous, it is very picky about tourists visiting. Because if you want to see and explore this stone forest with your own eyes, you need to have professional climbing skills and equipment to be able to move.

Local instructors will guide visitors in climbing skills, equipment maintenance and safety skills. The journey to explore and conquer Tsingy is still a challenge for professional climbers.
