Kazakhstan media reported on June 10 that three people were killed and 11 people were reported missing in a recent forest fire in the Abai region in the east of the country.

Over 800 people participated in firefighting and search and rescue operations. About 700 residents were evacuated, while local authorities also set up many safe shelters.
Despite high temperatures, large fire areas and strong winds, the situation is under control, said Nurbolat Derbisov, head of the Fire Services Committee of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan.
Previously, local media reported that the cause of the forest fire was lightning.
