Indian police said on December 13 that at least six people were killed and about 30 others injured in a fire at a private hospital in Dindigul city, Tamil Nadu state, southern India.

According to police, the fire broke out on the night of December 12, starting in the reception area on the first floor and quickly spreading to other floors. All six victims were found unconscious inside the elevator. About 30 people were injured and are currently in stable condition.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

House fires are common in India due to lack of fire fighting equipment and disregard for safety regulations.

A few weeks ago, a fire also broke out at a hospital in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, killing 10 newborn babies.
