Warning of losing money due to logging into personal spending management application

Providing digital banking service information to third parties puts customers at risk of having their service information stolen and losing money in their accounts.

This is a warning that the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) has just sent to customers regarding the situation where some personal finance and spending management applications have the feature of automatically querying bank account information.

According to Vietcombank, when users provide username and password information, the application will use this information to access the customer's digital banking service, retrieve information about accounts, transactions, balances and transfer it to the financial management and spending management application.

From there, customers are at risk of having their service information stolen and losing money in their bank accounts.

Therefore, to ensure safety, Vietcombank recommends that customers do not share digital banking service login information with any other individuals or organizations; only access VCB Digibank services from Vietcombank's official website or Vietcombank's VCB Digibank application.

Vietcombank affirms that this bank does not have a service linked to any personal finance management or spending management application on the market. If you suspect that your VCB Digibank service information has been stolen, you need to temporarily lock the service by texting VCB KHOA DIGIBANK to 6167 or change the service password and immediately contact Vietcombank's Call Center at 1900545413 or go to the nearest Vietcombank transaction point (during business hours) for timely support.

Previously, the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB) recommended that customers not download and install the "Fast Cleaner" software; or if they have installed the application, they should immediately uninstall it and change their bank account password.

The reason MB gives the above recommendation is because Fast Cleaner, although introduced as an application that helps speed up the device, remove junk capacity and optimize battery on Android devices, actually contains the Xenomorph 3 malware.

This malware is capable of stealing user login information, account balances... and transferring money from the victim's account...

Fast Cleaner once attracted more than 50,000 downloads from Google Play Store. Until now, although it has been removed from Google Play Store, many other websites are still distributing the application in the form of standalone installation files (apk).

Therefore, MB recommends that users should carefully evaluate the usage needs, necessity and reliability of the application before installing any software on the device.

In addition, users can enable Google Play Protect to scan applications and detect malware on Android devices or use security and anti-virus software with similar features.
