Cambodia's Ministry of Health has confirmed the second human case of H5N1 bird flu this year in the Southeast Asian country.
The patient is a 69-year-old man from Prey Chrouk commune, Puok district, Siem Reap province, northwestern Cambodia. The victim’s family has a flock of about 50-60 chickens and has had chickens die continuously over the past two weeks.
In a press release, the Cambodian Ministry of Health advised people to be vigilant against bird flu because “H5N1 bird flu continues to threaten people's health.”
The Ministry also noted that people with fever, cough, runny nose, difficulty breathing and a history of contact with sick or dead chickens or ducks within 14 days before the onset of symptoms should avoid crowded places and seek medical attention at the nearest medical facility for timely advice and treatment.
Previously, on January 26, the Cambodian Ministry of Health confirmed the first positive case of H5N1 avian influenza in the country in 2024.
The patient is a 3-year-old boy living in Ta Bruy village, Prek Poun commune, Kampong Trabek district, Prey Veng province, Southeast Cambodia.
