The unique playing style of supercar tycoon Dang Le Nguyen Vu

The Gumball 3000 supercar journey across 5 Southeast Asian countries is about to end in Singapore on September 23.

Previously, in Ho Chi Minh City, the 2-day event (September 14-15) attracted thousands of car enthusiasts from all over the country to visit. This is a rare opportunity for car enthusiasts in Vietnam to directly see the most expensive supercars in the world.

One of the most regrettable things is that Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu, Chairman of Trung Nguyen Coffee, did not participate in Gumball 3000 even though this businessman's fleet of 18 rare cars displayed at the event.

Trung Nguyen Group is one of the sponsors of the Gumball 3000 journey. It is not clear how much money this coffee brand spent, but in return, 18 supercars of Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu were displayed in a separate area at the same location as the event displaying the fleet of cars participating in Gumball 3000.

The absence of the businessman from Khanh Hoa made car fans regretful because besides the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class of two Vietnamese-Canadian and American drivers appearing in the Gumball 3000 fleet, Mr. Vu's supercar fleet attracted and impressed domestic and foreign car enthusiasts the most, especially the appearance of two Ford GTs - a rare supercar model that is very difficult to buy.

In fact, the registration fee for Gumball 3009 is extremely expensive, up to 100,000 USD/2 people, equivalent to 2.5 billion VND for a membership. Many tycoons and supercar enthusiasts in Vietnam do not dare to "spend money" to participate because of the expensive fee.

However, Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu's absence was not for this reason, as he is the tycoon who owns the most supercars in Vietnam.

For a long time, he has been known as a famous but “hidden” car enthusiast. Domestic car enthusiasts have only seen him driving some supercars or classic cars on the streets or at some car showrooms. Some major supercar journeys held in Vietnam such as Car & Passion or VietRally have never had the participation of this businessman.

Besides, the founder of Trung Nguyen coffee brand is often associated with the image of a car collection worth thousands of billions of VND instead of the image of driving supercars on long roads to experience like the playboy Cuong Do La or spending billions of VND to upgrade car packages like the discreet tycoon in Vung Tau.

This is also the style of car playing associated with Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu's name since the early years of the supercar movement blooming in Vietnam, completely different from the majority of other car playing tycoons in the country.

For example, the biggest car event organized by Trung Nguyen in the “Journey From the Heart” in 2018-2019 with many luxury cars and expensive supercars, all driven by the group’s drivers. The brand founder, although the initiator, was absent.

The coffee businessman's car playing style has caused a lot of controversy when some people said that supercars were born for buyers to experience the feeling of driving instead of just displaying them in their homes. Although he did not participate, Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu still made his own mark at this Gumball 3000 journey with expensive cars that even the world's car enthusiasts would covet.
