Generations fostering the special Vietnam-Laos friendship

Within the framework of his official visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic, on the morning of April 11, President Vo Van Thuong visited former General Secretary and President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone; former General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith and former Prime Minister of Laos Thongsing Thammavong.

President Vo Van Thuong expressed his pleasure at meeting comrades and long-time close friends of the Vietnamese leaders and people; sincerely thanked former Lao leaders for their great contributions to fostering the loyal, pure, and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, as well as their interest in and support for the comprehensive development of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

On this occasion, President Vo Van Thuong conveyed New Year greetings on the traditional Bunpimay Festival and warm greetings from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to former senior leaders of Laos.

President Vo Van Thuong congratulated the success and highly appreciated the great domestic and foreign achievements that the Lao Party, State and people have achieved in recent years; including the extremely important contributions of former senior leaders of Laos.

The President expressed his belief that under the wise leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Laos will soon overcome difficulties, develop more independently, self-reliantly, and prosperously, and the Lao people will become more prosperous and happy.

The former Lao leaders thanked President Vo Van Thuong for his visit; sent greetings and best wishes to the senior leaders of Vietnam; recalled past memories and emphasized that their close and intimate feelings towards Vietnam are still deep; said that they are still closely following the situation and are very happy with the good development of the cooperative relationship between the two countries in all fields; thanked Vietnam for its valuable support and assistance to Laos and proposed to strengthen cooperation and exchange experiences to help stabilize and develop the socio-economy.

The former leaders suggested that both sides continue to foster the special Vietnam-Laos friendship; constantly improve the effectiveness of cooperation and effectively implement agreements and treaties between the two countries; and emphasized the need to continue to pay attention to educating and propagating to the people of the two countries, especially the younger generation, about the tradition of special and loyal relations between Laos-Vietnam and Vietnam-Laos.

On the same morning, President Vo Van Thuong laid flowers at the Monument of President Kaysone Phomvihane; expressing the respect and remembrance of the Party, State and people of Vietnam for the leader who made great contributions in laying the foundation for building, preserving and developing the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos, which has become a valuable asset of the two peoples.
