The bluefin tuna was caught off the northern coast of Japan's Aomori prefecture, known for its high-quality tuna; the Onodera restaurant chain was the successful bidder for the tuna.
The first tuna auction of 2022 at Toyosu fish market in Japan's capital Tokyo recorded the highest price of 16.9 million yen (145,000 USD or about 3.2 billion VND) for a fish weighing 211kg.
The bluefin tuna was caught off the northern coast of Japan's Aomori prefecture, which is known for its high-quality tuna. The Onodera restaurant chain was the successful bidder for the tuna.
Onodera representatives said the tuna will be divided into portions to serve diners in Japan and supplied to the company's restaurants overseas, including restaurants in Hawaii, New York and Los Angeles.
