The summer of 2023 will be the hottest summer in the Northern Hemisphere in more than 2,000 years, according to a new study published in the journal Nature on May 14.
Combining observed and reconstructed surface air temperatures from June to August 2023, the researchers highlight that summer 2023 was the hottest summer on record in the Northern Hemisphere.
The study found that although the summer 2023 temperature increase is consistent with the warming trend due to greenhouse gas emissions and the ongoing El Nino weather pattern, it highlights the urgency of implementing international agreements to reduce carbon emissions.
