E-Coli is a common bacteria that lives in the intestines of humans and animals. Some strains of E-Coli are capable of producing extremely potent toxins that can cause serious illness.
With many years of research and teaching related to water treatment, Dr. Vu Thi Tan, lecturer at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, shows three basic ways to remove E-Coli in household water.
Use Chlorine
Chlorine (or chlorine) is a chemical with extremely strong oxidizing and disinfecting effects. Water plants often add chlorine to the final stage of water treatment to disinfect and kill bacteria. You can buy chlorine tablets (powder) at stores or online at very cheap prices.
According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, drinking water and domestic water in areas contaminated with E-Coli must be treated with chlorine-containing compounds in accordance with regulations to achieve a residual chlorine concentration of 0.3 mg to 0.5 mg per liter of water.
According to Dr. Tan, families can use 70-72 grams of Chlorine powder 70 (Chlorine 70%) in 10 liters of clean water and stir until dissolved to get clean water, which can be used for cooking.
Use filter
Reverse osmosis membrane systems (also known as RO membranes) are capable of effectively removing E-Coli bacteria. These RO systems use a filter to push water through the membrane, while not allowing contaminants or E-Coli to pass through. Any home with an RO filter can rest assured to use it for drinking, washing vegetables and fruits. To be more careful, you should replace the filter with a new one.

UV lamp (ultraviolet light)
You can use UV (ultraviolet) light to effectively remove E-Coli from drinking water. When water passes through the UV system, all bacteria present in the water will be destroyed. UV lights are widely sold online and in hardware stores for 200,000 VND to 1 million VND depending on the power.
