The tropical depression is gradually strengthening. It is forecasted that by 10:00 a.m. on July 20, the tropical depression will move northwest at a speed of about 10 km/hour, with thunderstorms in many areas across the country.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 1 p.m., the center of the tropical depression was located at about 14.3 degrees north latitude; 117.5 degrees east longitude, in the eastern sea of the central East Sea. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was level 6 (39 - 49 km/h), gusting to level 8; moving northwest at a speed of 5 - 10 km/h.
Forecast, by 13:00 on July 20, the tropical depression will move northwest, speed about 10 km/h, tropical depression position at 15.5 N-116.4E; in the sea east of the northern and central East Sea. Natural disaster risk level 3, affected area is east of the northern and central East Sea.
At 1:00 p.m. on July 21, the tropical depression moved in the West-Northwest direction, at a speed of 10 - 15 km/h, the tropical depression was located at 17.3N - 113.5E; in the sea northeast of Hoang Sa island, the storm intensity was level 6 - 7, gusting to level 9. The natural disaster risk level was level 3, the affected area was the northern East Sea (including Hoang Sa island).
Experts predict that in the next 48 to 72 hours, the tropical depression will move northwest at about 10 km per hour.
Due to the impact of the tropical depression, the eastern sea of the northern and central East Sea has heavy showers and thunderstorms, strong winds of level 6, then increasing to level 6 - 7, gusting to level 9, and rough seas.
The eastern sea area of the northern and central East Sea has waves 2 - 4 m high.
Experts also said that from the evening of July 19 to July 21, in the Central Highlands and the South, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 40 - 100 mm, locally over 150 mm (rain concentrated in the afternoon and night).
In addition, in the evening and night of July 19, the Northern regions will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall from 10 - 30 mm, locally over 70 mm. The Central region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 15 - 30 mm, locally over 70 mm. Warning level 1 of natural disaster risk due to heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, and hail.
Experts also warn of the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying, urban areas. Thunderstorms may include tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
