Speaking to reporters, Mr. Sudam Khade, an official of the Food and Drug Administration of India, said that the managers inspected the manufacturing facility of the pharmaceutical company Riemann Labs in the state of Madhya Pradesh and discovered many violations in the production process as well as product research. However, Mr. Khade did not disclose specifics. According to this official, the investigators have sent samples for testing and will make a decision based on the test results.

Riemann Labs, which had to stop production following the inspection, is the fourth pharmaceutical company in India to halt operations after being found guilty of wrongdoing. Riemann Labs is the manufacturer of Naturcold cough syrup. Cameroon authorities have accused a batch of the cough syrup of being linked to at least six deaths in children in the African country.

Indian regulators are investigating pharmaceutical companies after cough syrups made in the country were linked to dozens of child deaths in several countries. Since June, India has tightened controls on cough syrup exports, requiring companies to obtain a certificate of analysis from a government laboratory before shipping their products.

Riemann Labs has not yet responded to the above information.
