According to the announcement on August 15 by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, Ton Duc Thang University maintained its position on the ARWU rankings compared to last year - in the 601-700 group. This is the highest ranking since joining this ranking in 2019. For Duy Tan University, 2022 is the second year the school has participated, falling from the 601-700 group to the 901-1,000 group.

ARWU is one of the three most prestigious and influential university rankings, along with QS and THE. This ranking was first published in June 2003 by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China). Since 2009, ARWU has been independently conducted by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. Each year, more than 2,500 universities from countries and regions participate, and 1,000 of them are ranked as the best in the world.

ARWU ranks universities according to six separate indicators grouped into four criteria groups: quality of training; quality of lecturers; scientific research achievements and average academic achievements per capita.

With the above criteria, Harvard University of the US has been leading for the 5th consecutive year, since 2018. The remaining two positions in the top 3 this year belong to two other US representatives, Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

In Asia alone, China has eight representatives in the world's top 100, including Tsinghua University and Peking University - two familiar names in all rankings of the best universities in Asia and the world. Of these, Tsinghua University is ranked 26th and Peking University is ranked 34th.

In Southeast Asia, Singapore has two schools in the top 100, the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. Malaysia has five representatives, with the University of Malaya ranked highest - in the 301-400 group. Thailand has four schools in the top 1,000, with Chulalongkorn University ranked highest (401-500 in the world).

As for Ton Duc Thang and Duy Tan Universities of Vietnam, in addition to being present in the ARWU rankings, these two universities also hold high rankings in the 2022 world university rankings of THE and QS. Of which, Ton Duc Thang University is ranked 401-500 by THE and 1,001-1,200 by QS; Duy Tan University is ranked 401-500 by THE and 801-1,000 by QS.
