When learning about the lonely situation of Mr. Tran Van Viet, born in 1960, in Van Khe village, Cao Thang commune (Thanh Mien), many people could not help but feel sorry.
A philanthropist gave a gift to Mr. Tran Van Viet
Mr. Tran Van Dien, Mr. Viet's older brother, sighed: "Before joining the army, my younger brother was very agile and resourceful. Unfortunately, after being discharged from the army and returning to his hometown, he suffered from mental illness and talked about the battlefield every day."
According to Mr. Dien, Mr. Viet joined the army in 1978, participating in the fight to protect the northern border. In 1982, he was discharged and returned to his hometown. It was not until 1983 that he became ill. Mr. Viet was forgetful and showed signs of paranoia. Sometimes he talked about the battlefield all day and all night, once after cooking, he threw the rice into the garden and told everyone that he was "sharing rice with his comrades"...
According to Mr. Dien, Mr. Viet lost all his documents so he was not eligible to apply for benefits for meritorious people.
Mr. Viet lives alone in the house that Mr. Dien built for him. Currently, Mr. Viet is receiving social benefits for the disabled. Mr. Dien helps Mr. Viet buy rice, oil, fish sauce, salt, etc. with this money.
Mr. Dien is a war invalid, currently suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, his wife has knee osteoarthritis, making it difficult for her to walk. Over the years, he has tried to take care of his younger brother, but he is getting older and weaker, suffering from many illnesses, so there are times when he is powerless. Mr. Dien shared: “I have been taking care of my younger brother for decades, but his illness has not improved. My wife and I are now suffering from many illnesses, and we hope that benefactors will help us to take better care of my younger brother.”
Mr. Vu Quang Nhat, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Cao Thang commune, said that Mr. Viet is one of the most disadvantaged households in the commune and needs support from philanthropists.
